UNIX 2 :- How/Why UNIX came into existense ?

Problems with existing Operating Systems

1. Traditional OS were designed with a particular machine in mind.
2. These systems were fast but restricted to the hardware they were designed for.
3. Programs written on one system would simply not run on another system.

To overcome these problems Dennis Ritche & Ken Thomson of AT&T laboratories designed UNIX systems.
